The weather in Switzerland is known for its unpredictability. One moment the sun is shining over Lake Zurich, and the next, dark clouds roll in over the Uetliberg, bringing heavy rain showers. For locals and tourists alike, the pressing question often arises: What to do when the weather doesn’t cooperate? The search for the best indoor activities Zurich begins. Whether it’s storming, snowing, or just unpleasantly wet – having a solid bad weather program Zurich is absolutely essential to save your weekend or your holidays.
At GamePlaza, we know exactly how frustrating ruined plans can be. That’s exactly why we created a space at Badenerstrasse 569 that offers more than just a simple roof over your head; it offers an interactive journey through the history of video games. So, if you are looking for outstanding places to visit in Zurich when it rains, you’ve come to the right place. In this article, we’ll tell you why the GamePlaza Museum is much more than just an emergency plan for bad weather and why it’s worth a visit at any time of the year.
The Revolution of Indoor Activities in Zurich
Zurich has many museums, cinemas, and indoor playgrounds to offer. But if you are looking for an activity that combines excitement, nostalgia, and state-of-the-art technology, the choices become narrower. This is where GamePlaza comes in. We are proud to be the first interactive video game museum in Zurich. Our concept is remarkably simple but unique in Switzerland: buy one ticket and play unlimited.
Many traditional arcades operate with annoying coins or tokens. This often means that pocket money is quickly used up and the fun comes to an abrupt end. With us, you only pay the entrance fee (22 CHF for adults, 19 CHF for children between 6 and 15 years, and only 5 CHF for 5-year-olds). After that, all arcade machines, retro consoles, high-end PC games, and even our immersive VR experiences are fully included in the price. No hidden costs, no extra payments. You come in, press START, and completely forget about the rainy weather outside.
A Paradise for Gamers – From Arcade Classics to Virtual Reality
What exactly makes us the best bad weather program Zurich? It’s the sheer variety of our exhibition. When you walk through our doors on the first floor, a lovingly curated collection awaits you that will make the hearts of gamers of every generation beat faster.
Do you still remember the golden days of arcades in the 80s and 90s? With us, you can feel the authentic touch of vintage arcade joysticks under your hands. Challenge each other on the arcade machines or work together as a team to crack the ultimate high score. The rhythmic clicking of the buttons and the glowing screens of the classic cabinets quickly make you forget the gray rain in Zurich.
But we don’t just look to the past. Those who prefer to sit on the couch will find everything their heart desires at our game consoles. From the first Nintendo systems to Sega, Xbox, and PlayStation – we have united the evolution of console gaming under one roof. For strategists and keyboard heroes, our PC stations offer profound gaming adventures. And for those who want to experience the future of gaming, our Virtual Reality (VR) headsets are ready. Dive into virtual worlds where you physically leave reality (and the bad weather) behind.
Activities Zurich Winter vs. Activities Zurich Summer
You might think a video game museum is only relevant during the dark and cold seasons. Naturally, we are among the most popular activities Zurich winter. When temperatures drop below freezing and the icy wind whistles through the streets of the Limmat city, there is hardly anything cozier than retreating to our warm rooms, having a glowing screen in front of you, and playing nostalgic games with friends. The holidays at the end of the year are our peak season for family outings and corporate Christmas dinner events.
But we are also an absolute insider tip as activities Zurich summer. Why? Firstly, our air-conditioned museum offers the perfect escape from the oppressive heat in July and August, when the sun beats down relentlessly on the asphalt and even swimming in the lake no longer brings real cooling. Secondly, summer thunderstorms in Switzerland are legendary. A sudden downpour can ruin the perfect barbecue afternoon – GamePlaza offers immediate, uncomplicated rescue here.
Even in autumn, when the days get shorter and the leaves fall, we seamlessly join the list of the best activities Zurich autumn. The cozy atmosphere in our museum invites you to immerse yourself in foreign worlds for hours while the autumn wind rattles the windows outside.
